This is where examples C + D above come in. It gets fun when you start borrowing from the diminished. As in for C9 it'd be G-66, for C7b9#5 it'd be Db-6 and for C7susb9 it'd be Bb-6. Or a F∆9 is 6/-7 off 5th/3rd as in C6/A-7.įor dominants it's a m6 off the 5th, b2,b7. So to him a F∆13#11 (I find it easier to think in terms of minor7 or minor7b5 for the conversion, same anyways).a G6/E-7 off the 2nd/7th. However the notes that are harmonized with the diminished can borrow from the 6 and vice versa. The harmonisation rules are pretty much set in stone for a given melody. He looks at everything as a pair of 6 (major or minor) with it's diminished chord. Ī is the melody with garden variety harmonisation ala Joe Pass etc.ī is where Harris starts. Which has done wonders for me fwiw in terms of harmony in chords for reharm or comping and as single note lines for improv.Ī fellow forumite turned me into Harris a few years back. There's always the Barry Harris approach. I think part of that is determined by the cost of the e-book (better resolution=larger file size=more publishing cost) Its a gamble buying kindle music ebooks because you're subject to what scan resolution they thought would be appropriate. Not sure if Kindle can do vector, but all the music e-books I've received from them were either complete scans (from prior published works), or a combination of text and scanned notation. Scan AFAICT is similar to using a copy machine. Vector would be the result of direct output from the notation program. PDF's are capable of both vector and scan representation. Vector is geometric commands - and can be magnified infinitely. In general digital publishing of graphics and/or music notation there's vector or scan representation. No way to fix the hand script other than to re-write it (or use a graphic program to shore it up). I think with a better scan resolution it would be better. Two issues - the scan resolution and the actual hand script. Those Galbriath sheets are a lot better than some of the Kindle music books I've purchased.
